Morning routines

I love mornings. Especially those mornings when I’m not in a hurry. I wish I would be one of those who likes to workout early in the morning. During weekends it’s fine, when I don’t have to wake up at 6 am, but during weekdays I don’t find the motivation to go to the gym before work. At least I have a 30 minutes walk to work, that’s really convenient. I’ll have to see if I feel more motivated towards spring when it’s getting lighter outside. Until then the weekend mornings are my favourites! How my dream morning looks like (only happens during weekends 😉 ) Wake up at 8 am. Drink some water & coffee (should change the coffee to golden milk instead. Some day, some day…) 45-60 minutes powerwalk OR yoga. BREAKFAST ❤ (and more coffee..) preferably in bed while reading some magazines or books. Take my vitamins – Vitamin D, MSM, vitamin B, and Chlorella. If I don’t have anything else planned I usually go to the gym around 11-12 o’clock.   Annonser

For the love of porridge

At the moment I love starting my day with a big bowl of porridge. I prefer gluten free oat porridge but try to vary and spice it up with either buckwheat or amaranth. My weakness is for sure oat porridge cooked in coconut milk, real yummy! Not to mention porridge flavoured with vanilla and cardamom. The best thing about porridge is that you can top it with almost anything – fresh berries, blueberry chia jam, apple sauce, different seeds and nuts such as pumpkin seeds, melon seeds, hemp seeds, pine nuts, almond milk, soy yoghurt… The list goes on. In Sweden we are really spoiled at the moment with this beautiful Winter weather. It’s very convenient to warm up with a nice, creamy bowl of porridge. Oh, and I wrote in the beginning that I love starting my day with a bowl of porridge. I normally also love ending my day the same way 😉 The pictures below represents the perfect bowl of oats cooked in coconut milk with a pinch of sea salt and …

Stay active

In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle it’s important that you try to stay active and workout regularly. Try to exercise at least three times a week for a at least 30 minutes. And that means 30 sweaty minutes 😉 But the most important is that you stay active every day. And by active I mean going for a brisk 30 minutes walk, cleaning the apartment/house, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, doing some light yoga/stretching, playing with your kids, dancing to your favourite song, taking the bicycle instead of the car, those kind of things. It’s easy to forget about the time when you’re in front of the computer, minutes become hours and all of a sudden you’ve been sitting in the same position for way too many hours. Making you feel tense and stiff. Try to take short breaks every now and then; drink some water, stretch your shoulders etcetera. I’m one of those lucky persons that only has a 30 minutes walk to work. It’s a great way to start the …

skin products

It’s not always easy to maintain a healthy glowing skin, especially during these cold Winter months. I myself usually suffer from very dry skin during this period. By drinking loads of water, getting enough sleep and fresh air, eating veggies and cutting down on milk products and white sugars I noticed my skin both looks and feels healthier. Adding these foods to your plate also gives the skin an extra boost of health: walnuts, kale, green tea, pumpkin, carrots, sunflower seeds, mackerel, chickpeas, tomatoes, pomegranate, oatmeal… In addition, for the last 4 months I’ve been using REN skin products and I must say I really love their products. Their Omega 3 Optimum Skin Oil is a lifesaver and helps my skin to stay smooth and soft. It’s a must before heading outside in the cold. Once a week I also use their Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask. Another lifesaver 😉 REN uses only 100 % plant and mineral derived actives and is free from skin unfriendly synthetic ingredients. REN is against animal testing and their products …

Top 5 Superfoods

I prefer to add different (super)foods to my diet and at the moment I fancy a couple of products a bit extra. They give me well needed energy throughout the day, and last but not least they taste great! Acai. This awesome dark purple and antioxidant-rich berry grows in South America and is commonly found in the rainforests of the Amazon. Acai contains Vitamin C and B, minerals, omega fatty acids, among other things. Eat acai and you will get a natural energy boost.  Raw cacao nibs. For my sweet tooth. I usually sprinkle these sweethearts on my smoothie or mix it with my home made granola. Divine!  Coconut oil. I always use coconut oil when cooking. It’s for sure my favourite, and I can’t live without it. A new favourite is one with cinnamon flavour. Absolutely delicious and it tastes so good in my morning coffee ❤ Chlorella. I use this fresh water algae to boost my immune system, reducing the chances of infection. It gives me energy and plenty of essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, Vitamin …

Quinoa & Zucchini Burgers

These Quinoa & Zucchini Burgers are really easy to make. You just mix the ingredients and fry in a pan until golden brown. Veggie burgers are so versatile, choose your favourite ingredients and combine any way you like. Together with Roasted Carrot & Sweet Potato this dish is accomplished. Quinoa is such a great base when making burgers; thanks to its texture and neutral taste. It’s also an excellent source of magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese and protein. Perfect for vegetarians and vegans. Quinoa & Zucchini Burgers Ingredients: (approximately 8 burgers) 2 dl cooked quinoa 1 zucchini 2 organic eggs 2 tbs gluten free oat flour 0.5 dl chopped walnuts 1 handful melon seeds 1 handful fresh coriander, roughly chopped 1 garlic clove, minced Salt & Black Pepper + Coconut oil for frying Instructions: Cook quinoa according to the instructions on the package. Peel and grate the zucchini. Try to squeeze away excess fluid. Mix quinoa, zucchini, eggs, oat flour, garlic, chopped walnuts and melon seeds in a large bowl until combined. Let sit for a …

Workout inspiration

I have a goal for 2016; Once a month I want to try out a new sport or activity. Today I went to a Barre class and it went pretty well. I must say I’ve missed ballet inspired training. More of that indeed, and the best part it’s rather easy to do at home. All you need is a chair 😉 Other sports I’m eager to try (or do more often); Thai boxing Crossfit Dancing Yoga Down hill skiing / snowboarding I wanna complete an obstacle race (Tough Viking!?) Meat free January

I’ve decided to enjoy a meat free/vegetarian January. I haven’t been eating red meat and pork in a very long time, I think it’s probably 15 years since I had a piece of meat. However I’ve been eating plenty of chicken and fish. Whereas I’m sensitive to dairy it won’t be any bigger problem leaving that out. Goat cheese is still okey for me (in moderation), which I’m rather happy about since I love halloumi. Anyhow during this meat free month I will continue eating organic eggs, but less than before. I’m used to eating approximately three to four eggs per day. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I’m down to eating three to four eggs per week. One reason why I decided to stay away from chicken and fish is that I want to eat more plant based and thereby focus more on veggies and greens. I didn’t really plan to have a meat free January, it just ”happened”. During the Christmas holidays I enjoyed plenty of vegetarian food and fish, and it felt …

10 steps to a healthier you

Living a healthy life shouldn’t be difficult. Actually it’s pretty simple. It’s all about routines, finding the things that are easy to incorporate into your daily life. Choose a lifestyle you’re comfortable with, one you can easily hold on to. Start from yourself. Start today.  Drink water. Start the day by drinking a glas of hot lemon water. During the day I mix 1 tbs of MSM-powder in my water for an extra boost and energy. MSM is good for your hair, skin, nails and overall wellbeing among other things. I’ve been ignoring the importance of water but now I’m determined to drink two litres a day. Enjoy a healthy breakfast. A good day start with a healthy breakfast. Problems eating breakfast early in the mornings? Take it with you to school or work. A quick morning workout might evoke your appetite.  A bowl of coconut porridge, a green smoothie, avocado toast, home made granola just to mention a few options. Stay active. Walk as much as possible. Stay active during the day by taking the …
