10 rules of Clean Eating

Clean eating. What’s my definition and/or rules of the word? Since we are all different – we live different lives, our bodies are different etcetera – it’s important to remember that these rules most likely vary from person to person. Anyhow, these are my ten rules of clean eating.

  1. Never skip breakfast – I love breakfast, its by far the best meal of the day. In my opinion the most important meal. Porridge, avocado toast, green smoothies, acai bowls, omelette, home made granola with almond milk, the list goes on. 
  2. Eat the rainbow – Put colourful vegetables, fruits and berries on your plate in order to get all the necessary antioxidants your body needs.
  3. Buy organic produced food – Yes it’s slightly more expensive but I try to choose the organic options when available. Some fruits/foods I always buy organic such as bananas and coffee.
  4. Drink water – I try to drink 2-3 litres of water a day.  At first I struggled but my body gotten used to it so now I drink without even thinking about it.
  5. Listen to your body – don’t be too hard on yourself. If you fancy some chocolate have some chocolate. I always try to grab the healthier options such as raw chocolate. Raw food treats in general is my weakness. Try to learn the difference between hunger and eating just for the sake of it. You might only be dehydrated (or bored).
  6. Drink your greens – I always incorporate leafy greens in my daily diet. If not added into my smoothies I make myself a big bowl of mixed salad.
  7. Cook your own food – the advantage of cooking food at home from scratch is that you know exactly what’s going into it, including the amount of salt, fats and sugar. Why not start meal prepping every Sunday if you know you don’t have time to cook every weekday.
  8. Skip the fad diets – Healthy eating should be all about choosing a balanced lifestyle including wholesome, organic and clean foods that make you strong, fit, vibrant and happy. I prefer choosing a lifestyle that is easily maintainable all year round.
  9. Avoid processed food – these foods usually contain loads of added salt, sugar and fat. Not to mention all the preservatives. If I don’t understand the label on the package I usually don’t eat it. With that being said, I’m far from perfect but it’s a guideline I try to follow the best I can.
  10. Eat mindfully – Stress and eating doesn’t go well together. Always sit down while eating and focus on the food on your plate, not on things happening around you.
