Small steps to maintain a balanced & healthy lifestyle

”What a wonderful day. I’ve never seen this one before.” – Maya Angelou Choose a lifestyle that you are comfortable with. A lifestyle you can stick to all year around. A balanced & healthy lifestyle is not a quick fix, it’s your life. Needless to say, you might have to make sacrifices, you might even have to give up on certain things. However, you will gain plenty by making the right choices and not saying no to new challenges. Yes, challenge yourself, say yes to new adventures. Step outside that comfort zone of yours. Or why not take a huge jump outside it. Try it. It won’t kill you. ”Your vibe attracts your tribe”. Be positive. Think positive. Spend time with positive people. The people you spend most of your time with have a huge impact on your wellbeing – choose them carefully. Believe in your abilities. In your creativeness. As Elizabeth Gilbert puts it; ”The effort is worth it, because when at last you do connect, it is an otherworldly delight of the highest order. Because …

Weekend inspo

”It is up to you to see the beauty of everyday things.” I feel a lack of inspiration this grey and cold Saturday. My body is craving rest. At times I force my self to do stuff although I don’t feel like it, today not so much. I’m going to embrace the fact that I feel tired and unmotivated. Some days you just don’t feel like it and that’s when you should listen to your body. Tomorrow is a new day and despite the feeling of being totally drained of all energy I’m going to make the most out of this day – read books and spend time outside (despite the awful weather). Nothing beats fresh air.

HIIT WORKOUT

HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training I love a sweaty workout. Short & intense – that’s my thing. Preferably in the morning to wake up the mind and body; getting ready for the day ahead. The best start. So refreshing! These workouts are perfect to do at home, no fancy equipment is needed (just a chair or bench for the step ups and tricep dips & a skipping rope). No excuses. Let’s do this. Do 3-5 rounds, depending on your fitness level. Rest 1 minute between the rounds. Remember to do some light stretches after each workout. Grab your water bottle, choose 1 of the 5 workouts below and get ready to sweat!  I enjoy going to the gym, but some days when I don’t feel like it I rather workout at home. Then a sweaty HIIT workout is perfect ⇓

Random Thursday thoughts

”Be stubborn about your goals. And flexible about your methods.” On my mind Turmeric latte. Heat up a cup of almond milk. Add a hint of cinnamon, turmeric & black pepper, a teaspoon of coconut oil and raw honey. My favourite drink at the moment. Definitely worth a try, especially if you’re feeling a bit under the weather. Perfect during chilly winter evenings. Quick & effective workouts. Those days when I don’t feel like spending hours at the gym you will most likely find me smashing out a quick 30 minutes workout session – sprints & plyo jumps are two of my favourite go-to exercises. For the love of boxing. Boxing makes me feel bad ass. I tend to forget about this awesome sport and rely on my usual gym session. However, as often as possible I force my boyfriend to teach me his flawless skills. Be curious & feed your brain. Ask questions. Read books. Learn new stuff. Education is an ongoing process.  Tulips. I absolutely love tulip season (It means spring is almost around the corner. Despite …

Eat for beauty

Beauty starts from within. A naturally healthy skin often starts with your diet. Our body uses vitamins, minerals and amino acids, that are digested from the food, to build healthy skin. If you rely solely on highly processed food your skin won’t get all the vital stuff it needs. Choose food that will help you get a glowing, radiant and healthy-looking skin; Fill your plate with nutrient-dense-foods; Eat vegetables (as well as fruits & berries) of different colours for every meal. In general – the darker and brighter the colour, the more nutrients. Broccoli, bell peppers, kale, citrus fruits, strawberries, sweet potatoes etcetera. Don’t forget your greens; Start your day with a green juice filled with leafy greens such as spinach, kale or romaine lettuce. Add spirulina and chlorella for that extra vitality boost. Healthy sources of fat; Avocado, coconut oil, chia seeds, walnuts and almonds are great for the skin. Spice it up; Turmeric and cinnamon are two of my favourites for a glowing skin. Water, water & water; The best tip for a clearer skin – drink your water babe! …

How to learn to love Mondays

”Work hard. Do good. Be incredible.” Five steps towards a better start of the week. Learn how to rock Mondays. Use Sundays wisely. Sundays are for recharging and taking time to do the things we love. Why not set aside one hour every Sunday evening when you plan the upcoming week – schedule important meetings and go through all the stuff that needs to be done before Friday. Getting things ready and organized the evening before – prepare your lunch (take time to meal prep for a couple of days ahead) and lay out your clothes. Make time for breakfast. Always make time for breakfast. I’ll promise you’ll have more energy if you eat a nutritious breakfast. Grab something quick & healthy which is easy to bring along to work if you find it difficult to eat early in the morning; a protein smoothie for example. Schedule your workouts. Start your week with a Monday morning workout. You immediately get into the right healthy mood and it’s easier to stay on track rest of the week. Plan something fun …

Pecan & Coconut Granola with creamy blueberry smoothie

Home made granola ❤ My fav! I love the smell of cinnamon and cardamom, almost like I would be baking cinnamon buns (fooling the brain 😉 ) Just mix all of your favourites together, bake in the oven and voilá you have yourself a delicious weekend breakfast. I was actually searching for a granola in the food store earlier today but didn’t find any that attracted my attention. Anyhow, I don’t mind since I know how easy it is to make my own. Adding coconut chips and medjool dates was such a splendid idea. Perfect post-workout-meal. Pecan & Coconut Granola Ingredients: 5 dl gluten free oats 1 dl pumpkin seeds 1.5 dl pecans 0.75 dl melted coconut oil 0.5 dl water 0.5 -1 dl agave (you can also use for example coconut sugar or honey) A hint of cinnamon & cardamom + Natural coconut chips & chopped medjool dates Instructions: Preheat oven to 150 degrees celcius. Melt the coconut oil in a pan on low heat. Add water and sweetener. In a large mixing bowl, …

Weekend treats

”Keep it clean, eat your greens and don’t be mean in 2017.” (And remember to treat yourself once in a while) Weekends are for delicious treats. Relaxation. Sweaty workouts. Reading books. Enjoying nature. And simply appreciating the stillness. Below you’ll find a few of my favourite treats. Granola bars I’m a granola junkie so it’s quite understandable that these chocolate granola bars are my favourite. They are dangerously good. I can’t even think about making them if I’m home alone since I would easily eat them all in one day. I bet all family members will love them! Strawberry tartelette So cute. So yummie. And so easy to make. You probably won’t find fresh strawberries at the moment but you can use any kind of berries. Love the chocolate & hazelnut spread on top. The best combo! Strawberry & macadamia ice cream Of  all nuts macadamia has to be one of my favourites. But why so expensive!? Oh well, this ice cream tastes marvellous. It would probably go pretty well with a warm piece of …
