Food as medicin

”Let us eat smoothie bowls, count the stars and feed the world healthy foods.” Nutritious food and what you put into your body is the foundation for good health. Choose foods which are as close to their natural state as possible. Choose whole foods that heal and protect your body; foods that reduce inflammation and that help to prevent chronic illness. Choose the right fuel. Your body will be ever so thankful.   Eat the rainbow – colourful fruits and vegetables filled with vitamins, minerals & antioxidants. Use spices such as turmeric, ginger, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, garlic. Eat less from a box and more from the Earth.  Choose complex carbohydrates; Beans, veggies, buckwheat, quinoa, lentils. Eat slowly and mindfully. Avoid preservatives and additives that are included in many of today’s processed and sugary foods. Food can have an enormous power over us. We can either become addicted to certain foods, we might use food as a stimuli; for example we might turn to food when we’re bored, when we’re sad, when we’re stressed OR food …

Intelligence is not pure knowledge but imagination

Utopia As it was the last days of summer the sun had finally decided to come out. Just as it had been hiding behind the clouds the past months, waiting, it was suddenly determined to release its power. The heat had almost been unbearable the previous days. The young boy felt alive as he sat on the bench looking at the ocean, the sunlight kissing his cheeks. His heartbeat beating with quiet pace as his eyes admired the smooth sea.  ‘You once told me that we never get over it. Love. But I did.’ The old man looked at him, a hopeful expression suddenly appeared on his face. ‘Teach me, my dear friend. Teach me how.’ The young boy smiled tenderly. ‘I will.’  -L-

The midnight sun…

”The midnight sun makes us feel alive. Fragile. Anxious and terrified for the days being over before they have began. Short nights are all we got. Let us use them wisely. The peacefulness of the night is so rare, over before it has began. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.  We have this opportunity only for a few, short weeks. Don’t let them pass unnoticed. Monday thoughts

”It’s a beautiful day to be alive.”   Got caught by the flue and hit by creativity. Opportunities like these one needs to grasp. There’s always something good in each and every day.  Turmeric, ginger & honey are my best friends right now. As well as the sofa. My body is tired, but my mind is working on overtime. Besides reading and writing, editing photos and resting are the only things that slows it down. Beautiful food calms my nerves. Colourful, nutrient dense food that gives my body opportunity to recover and build itself up. The smell. The beauty. The colours of nature at the present moment. Like watching a flawless, magical painting by a newborn artist. I just realized that I’ve accepted to participate in a football game in eight days. I haven’t played football since 4th grade! I do hope visualizing is the powerful tool its claimed to be since I’m trying to visualize me on a football field scoring goal after goal 😉   ”Hope is the last thing that leaves our bodies. …

Intermittent fasting

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of articles addressing the concept of intermittent fasting – An eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting. And to keep things straight; intermittent fasting is not a diet, it’s a way of eating. According to a lot of scientists intermittent fasting is one of the best and cheapest ways to get to the bottom of inflammation (Nertby Aurell & Clase, Food Pharmacy, 2017, 158) But what is intermittent fasting?  It’s when you follow time-restricted eating. For example fast for 18 hours out of the day and eat your meals between the other 6 hours. If you’re introducing intermittent fasting it might be good to gradually increase the numbers of hours you fast, from 12 to 14 up to 18. 99 things for health

”Take care of your mind and body. It’s the only place you have to live.”   You can’t have too many lists. Here’s my list of 99 things for health. Health is not only about looking a certain way – health is about feeling alive, having a positive attitude towards life and being confident in your own skin, as well as being both mentally & physically strong. Health is your greatest wealth.  The importance of sleep. Aim for 6-8 hours sleep/night (And put away the phone 1 hour before bedtime). Staying active throughout the day. While it’s important to exercise regularly it’s as important to be active in your everyday life. Take the stairs. Always take the stairs. If you haven’t broken your foot, then take the elevator. Educate yourself. Try to learn something new everyday. Prioritise the greens, the veggies, the colourful stuff (I did not mean candy when I wrote that). Smile to strangers. They might think you’re crazy, but hey! Then smile even bigger. Drink plenty of water. Water is life. Water is fundamental to …

Dear June…

…you’re my favourite month. ”You’ll turn out ordinary if you’re not careful.” June is for waking up early. For staying up late. The Midnight Sun screaming for attention. June is for restless nights. June is for magic. Young and green. June is for miracles. For feeling alive. June is for picnics and counting stars. June is for beauty in its purest form. June is a wild child, a summer child. Growing into the adolescence of autumn. June is for believing everything is possible.  June is a month when I feel most alive. I blame the sunlight, the long days and short nights. I sleep a lot during winter, but could stay up whole June. The nature – pure, fresh and clean. June might as well be cold and rainy, but it’s still June. It’s still magic. My deepest desire is to spend every waking moment underneath the Sun. Close to the Sea.
