Accept what is

 

‘Just breathe and accept what is. The sun will rise tomorrow.’

 

In the The Power of Now Eckhart Tolle writes; ”Accept – then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. Make it your friend and ally, not your enemy. This will miraculously transform your whole life.” (p. 35) 

I found this to be very important, yet rather challenging. When you’re always busy living your life – striving to improve and solely having the eyes on your end goals – you’re not fully enjoying life. You’ll most probably miss out on a great deal of wonderful things happening around you when you’re never here, but always there.

Life happens now.

You see, life happens now. In this moment my life is happening here, in front of the computer, writing down words that hopefully will inspire at least one human. The coffee is cold, but I don’t mind, it was hot a minute ago. The rain smashing against the window. My foot itches, my neck hurts. The mind is content. I need water. I take a big sip of cold, refreshing water.

If you constantly focus on where you wanna be in the future or feel bad about all the things you haven’t accomplished yet it might become very frustrating when things don’t turn out the way you think they should. It can be very hard to accept a circumstance or situation for what it is. Our society is not very patient – meaning we want things now. We wanted them yesterday. We see what others have, and we want it as well. We want to have it all. If we only knew we already have everything we need.

Everything is temporarily.

Accepting the now for what it is, is crucial if you want to feel at peace. Don’t get me wrong; to be able to grow and to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself is very necessary in order to feel fulfilled. But sometimes you just have to welcome the fact that life keeps on pushing the pause button. It’s stucked, and can’t be removed, or so it seems. However, learning to accept things for what they are is also growth. Personally I’m not in my most vibrant life stage at the moment. I’ve learned to accept that, because I know that everything is temporarily. This too shall pass.

Know thy self. 

As soon as we let go of the need of controlling what happens in life things will unfold as they are meant to unfold. Challenge yourself to control the way you respond to what’s happening. That’s where your power is. Prepare yourself. Use the now to truly get to know yourself. Life is not always sunshine and butterflies. And how boring that would be. Setbacks, road bumps and things not happening as fast as you’d imagined is life’s way of presenting us with challenges, not to hurt us, but to guide us in the right direction. Sometimes life has a funny way of teaching us lessons.

If you’re going through a rough time right now, just know that it will be alright. Even if the clouds are heavy the sun is still there, underneath, it just took a nap. Eventually the sun will shine again. It always does. Just like life’s always working with you, not against you.

There’re plenty of things to do in order to become more present. You just have to find what works for you. I love spending time in the kitchen, baking healthier treats or being outside enjoying nature. I also spend more time at the gym really pushing myself or doing some deep stretching, as well as writing and feeding my body nutritious foods. In times like these it’s even more important to take care of yourself, to love yourself.

Take a deep breathe, give yourself a hug and have trust, deep within, that everything will be alright.
